ENUGU (Sundiata Post) – The Nigerian league champions Rangers International Football Club of Enugu have been eliminated from the CAF Champions League following a 3-1 away loss to Sagrada Esperanca club of Angola on Sunday.
The result leaves Nigeria with no representatives in the money-spinning group stage of the competition after Remo Stars had earlier crashed out.
In the match in Luanda on Sunday, Rangers went down 2-0 in the first half, but Anayo Ogbonna netted just before half-time for Rangers to bring the the tie to 2-2 aggregate score which would have been enough for the Nigerians to go through on away goals rule.
However, Jaime Pimpao’s goal for the Angolans in the second half on 67 minutes ensured that Sagrada edged Rangers to move to the group stage.
