Enugu – Interim President of Enugu State Union in South Africa, Elozie Nwabuisi, said on Monday that the victory of Rangers FC in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) was a good omen.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rangers won the 2015/2016 football league with 63 points after beating El-Kanemi FC of Maiduguri 4-0 in their last match.
Nwabuisi told NAN in Enugu that the union was happy with the feat achieved by Rangers.
“ We are happy and in joyous mood. This is like a dream come true. Rangers have broken the jinx of remaining trophy less for 32 years.
“ Rangers have put smile on the faces of entire South East Region people. We are proud of the team and we are happy they have rekindled the glorious years of the team,” he said.
Nwabuisi also said Rangers supporters had waited for years to see the trophy and would cherish the great moment.
“ Enugu state Union in South Africa remains grateful to our Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his commitment and support to the team.
“ The governor did his best to ensure that the team lacked nothing. He motivated them to achieve this feat and we remain very grateful to him,” he said.
The President urged the team to remain focused in the task ahead.
“ Having won the league, the major task ahead is the CAF Champions League. They should start preparations for the continental engagement as soon as possible because they will play against the best teams in the continent,” he said.
Nwabuisi assured that Enugu indigenes in South Africa would support the team in their continental engagements.
“ As we speak, Enugu indigenes in South Africa are still celebrating Rangers victory,” he said.
