LAFIA – Nasarawa United Football Club of Lafia on Thursday scored one goal in the concluding part of their delayed NPFL Week 21 match to make it 3-0 against FC Taraba.
The 2013/2014 Nigerian Professional Football League match at the Lafia Township Stadium had been abandoned on Wednesday due to heavy downpour.
Two goals, from Ugochukwu Leonard and Olayinka Onaolapo in the 30th and 47th minutes respectively, had given the hosts a deserved lead before the rains came down. [eap_ad_1] The rains hindered play to force the match officials to consider calling off the game in the 57th minute.
Referee Nworie Patrick from Enugu State, owing to the waterlogged pitch, had held due consultations with officials and captains of the two teams, and the match was thereafter called off.
It was agreed the remaining 37 minutes should be played on Thursday from 9 a.m.
Leonard, again, was on hand after 19 minutes on Thursday to score after a slick one-two passing move with Esosa Igbinoa.
At the end of the match, Nduka Ndubuisi, the coach of FC Taraba, blamed the pitch and weather for his team’s loss.
“The pitch is not good. Also, apart from it being waterlogged, there are lots of potholes on this pitch. The home team are used to it, and we are not,” he said.(NAN)
