Gombe – Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi, playing their home matches in Gombe on Sunday recorded their first home defeat, falling 0-1 to visiting Sunshine Stars FC of Akure.
The News Agency of N igerian(NAN) reports that the visitors held Wikki goalless for 79 minutes, only for them to worsen the situation for their hosts with a clincher in the 80th minute.
The precious away-goal that saw the visitors carting away three points, came through Chibumdu Amah, who slotted in a rebound, after Wikki Tourists goalkeeper, Pius Ibrahim, saved a penalty played by Sunday Abe.
In a post match briefing, the Head Coach of Sunshine Stars, Kayode Julius, said they were determined to win the match after their last encounter which they drew at home.
“ After the draw at home, we were determined to win the next match against Wikki and we got it. We give glory to God.
“We have played 15 matches unbeaten after Gov. Nyesom Wike’s Cup.
The team is a praying team and with God on our side, we will get a continental ticket,” he said.
Julius however acknowledged that Wikki Tourists were the better side despite losing at home to them.
He lauded the officiating and added that they would not relent in their next match against Remo Stars.
Sunday Abe, Captain of Sunshine Stars, said he was confident that the team would secure a continental ticket at the end of the season.
The Technical Adviser of Wikki Tourists, Aliyu Zubairu, when approached by newsmen, said he was not in a good mood to speak on the match.
NAN reports that the match officials had to be escorted out of the stadium by armed police personnel as fans attempted to break into the field.
