LAGOS – Tunji Fasimoye, Vice President, Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) on Friday said that the federation was working hard to ensure that the sport was adequately developed in the country.
Fasimoye told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the `Get into Rugby’ seminar organised earlier in the year in Lagos was aimed at popularising the sport at the grassroots.
He said that the federation recently invited two South African rugby legends, Breyton Paulse and Danie Gerber to motivate players at the grassroots and aid the development of the sport in the country.
NAN reports that Paulse and Gerber played for South Africa’s national team “The Springboks’’.
“Rugby is a sport that has a lot of potential in the country. Therefore the federation will ensure to leave no stone unturned to facilitate its development in Nigeria,” he said.
Fasimoye said that Paulse and Gerber were ex-internationals who had vast knowledge in the game. [eap_ad_1] “ The two players are ready to share and contribute their expertise for the benefit of upcoming talents in Nigeria,’’ he said.
Fasimoye said that the visit of the international players would also help to encourage the national team, Black Stallions, to excel at the Africa 7’s Championship scheduled for Kenya in November.
“The team has been properly motivated and I believe that we are going to put up a good performance at the championship,” he said.
Fasimoye said that the federation would be travelling with a 15-man delegation to Kenya to ensure that Nigeria comes out among the first top positions at the championship.
He thanked the South African Airways, the Federal Palace Hotel, SAB Miller, and Cedarburg wines for their sponsorship of the two former Springbok players to Nigeria. (NAN)
