Abuja – The Director-General, National Sports Commission (NSC), Alhassan Yakmut, on Tuesday in Abuja said inter-agency partnership was necessary for investors in sports to generate revenue for development.
A statement by the commission’s Deputy Director of Press, Stephen Nelson, quoted Yakmut as saying the commission was rebranding to explore an industrial clientele.
“This will be an industrial clientele which can produce sports wears which will attract sponsorship and endorsement,’’ it quoted
Yakmut as saying during a visit to the NSC by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade and Investment, Amb. Abdulkadir Musa.
The statement said sports alone, when properly harnessed, would contribute significantly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and generate massive employment for Nigerian youths.
“There are instances of transfer fees of England-based players which run into millions of dollars and these have in turn been a boost to the economies of the host country,’’ it said.
The statement also quoted the Permanent Secretary as assuring the commission of his Ministry’s desire to collaborate and look for those who are interested in sports development.
“We are on the same mission, and we will achieve the mission together,” Musa said.(NAN)
