DUTSE – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa on Tuesday said it had arrested three suspected phone snatchers.
The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Muhammad Gidado, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.
Gidado said that the agency arrested the suspects after it had received intelligence reports about their activities in Dutse, the state capital.
He said that two of the suspects, Yahuza Abba, 20, and Muhammad Wada, 26, were arrested in Kiyawa Local Government Area, while Isa Haruna, 27, was arrested in Gumel Local Government Area. [eap_ad_2] He said the suspects were undergraduates in some of the tertiary institutions in the state.
The commandant stated that the suspects were believed to be members of a gang that specialised in stealing cell phones in Dutse and its environs.
According to him, the gang has been snatching cell phones from residents of Dutse, Kiyawa and Gumel for a long time.
Gidado said the trio had been snatching phones at mosques, wedding or naming ceremonies and other social gatherings.
He said that the command had launched a manhunt to arrest the other three members of the gang who had escaped.
The commandant listed the cell phones recovered from the suspects to include: Techno T612, Nokia 1280, LG 330, Nokia Asha 200, Gionee P2, Nokia 110, Itel 6300, Nokia 1380 and an MTN recharge cards.
Gidado said the suspects would soon be charged to court after the conclusion of investigation. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
