DUTSE – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa said it had arrested three suspects for allegedly attempting to kill a pregnant woman.
The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Muhammad Gidado, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse that the suspects were arrested on Tuesday in Gusau quarters, Gumel Local Government Area of the state.
Gidado said the suspects were arrested after receiving a tip-off from one of the residents of the area.
He said that the corps had received information that some three men were seen taking the victim into one of the houses in the area.
The commandant said the source informed his men operating in the area that immediately the lady entered the house, she started shouting and calling for help.
According to him, the officers rushed to the scene immediately, rescued the victim and arrested the suspects.
Gidado said the suspects allegedly held the victim by her neck and marched on her stomach severally in an attempt to abort the pregnancy.
The commandant said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects, who were close friends, allegedly impregnated the victim, adding that “that is why they tried to abort the pregnancy by all means”.
He said the victim was taken to hospital for medical attention as she sustained injuries but was later discharged.
Gidado, however, said the pregnancy was intact as confirmed at the hospital.
He further said the victim was handed over to her parents, while the suspects were being investigated.
The commandant said that the suspects would soon be arraigned. (NAN)
