ABUJA – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Wednesday said it had adopted some measures to ensure hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations nationwide.
Mr Evans Ewurum, Deputy Commandant-General (Operations),of the agency, said at a news briefing in Abuja that no fewer than 65,000 personnel had been deployed for the festive season.
“We have concluded plans to ensure peaceful celebration of Christmas and New Year.
“We have mapped out operational plans to ensure tight security across the country,’’ Ewurum said.
He said apart from the deployment of personnel, the organisation had engaged the services of about 160,000 volunteers to ensure peace, law and order in the country.
The deputy commandant-general had earlier supervised the deployment of the arms squad on patrol round the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) tagged `Operation Show of Force’.
He said the exercise would ward off mischief makers.
“Operation Show-of-Force’ will be replicated across the 36 states of the federation to maintain peace during the Christmas and New Year festivities,” he said.
According to Ewurum, the NSCDC will continue to work closely with other security agencies to protect lives and property during and after the Yuletide.
“We are also working closely with other security agencies to ensure that the peace and stability of this country is not compromised,’’ Ewurum said.
He urged Nigerians to be vigilant and to report any suspicious movement to security agents.(NAN)
