Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, on Sunday said it would be deploying 1, 200 personnel to maintain law and order during the Eid el-Fitri celebration in the state.
Sundiata Post reports that Mr Gbenga Agu, the command’s
commandant, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen
Sundiata Post also reports that the Federal Government on Sunday declared Tuesday and Wednesday as public holiday to celebrate the Islamic festivities.
The commandant’s statement, signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Efosa Ogbebor, said the personnel would be deployed to places of worship, motor parks, recreational centres, and other places to prevent any form of threat to lives and property.
Agu, who directed all the special forces in the corps to join regular officers at ensuring security of lives and property during the festival, also assured the residents of a peaceful celebration.
“Adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
“Our job is to protect lives and property, so you must look out for criminals, hoodlums, and mischief makers seeking to compromise the peace of the state and deal decisively with them,” he said.
Sundiata Post recalls that the same number of personnel was deployed by the command during the Easter celebration in the state.
