ABEOKUTA (SUNDIATA POST)- Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun on Thursday received the Torch of Unity for the National Sports Festival tagged ”Gateway Games” 2025 at the Sagamu interchange on the Abeokuta – Sagamu expressway.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abiodun received the Torch from Dorcas Adesokan, winner of two gold medals at the 2014 African Youth Games .
Speaking after receiving the Torch, Abiodun commended President Bola Tinubu for his resilience and commitment towards promoting unity in the country.
The governor said that the Torch of Unity embodied the collective aspirations as a nation where diversity strengthened unity, and where youths were empowered to shine on the global stage.
He said that apart from fostering an environment where collaboration, friendship, and mutual respect flourished, it also promoted unity in diversity.
“The Torch of Unity commencing its journey across the federation in March, symbolises more than the upcoming Gateway Games.
“For us in Ogun, this Torch of Unity encapsulates the essence of our mission, celebrating our nation’s rich sporting heritage.
” It stands not merely as a symbol of sportsmanship but as a beacon of unity, peace, and the enduring spirit of every Nigerian.
“These are the core objectives of the National Sports Festival, to promote unity among Nigerians and reaffirm commitment to sportsmanship, resilience, and national cohesion,” the governor said.
He said that the Torch has reinforced the state’s renewed dedication to national unity, youth development, and celebration of rich diversity through sports.
The governor expressed hope that the Torch would ignite love among Nigerian youths and act as a symbol of unity for all Nigerians and the nation.(NAN)
