Birnin Kebbi – The Chairman, Kebbi Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Aliyu Jajirma, on Tuesday pledged to promote the welfare of members and provide conducive environment for them to operate.
Jajirma, who made the pledge in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)in Birnin Kebbi, said the union would ensure that Journalists uphold the ethics of the profession.
“We will ensure that objectivity and fairness remain the watch words of media practice,” he said.
The chairman said that the council would partner with stakeholders in the training and retraining of journalists to enhance their productivity and efficiency.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He advised journalists against unethical conducts that would tarnish the image of the profession, adding that they should always verify information before going to the press.
Jajirma urged working journalists in the state to enrol into the NUJ insurance scheme in view of the lofty benefits deriveable from it.
The chairman called on the Kebbi Government to hasten the digitisation of its radio and television stations in line with the directives of the National Broadcasting Commission, and to enhance outreach in line with global trend.
He commended the government for sponsoring some journalists to perform the just concluded pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.(NAN)
