Abuja- The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Sunday advised all media houses in the country to desist from announcing election results not released by INEC.
The President of the union, Malam Mohammed Garba, gave the advice in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
He said that extant electoral laws and guidelines mandated only INEC as the sole authority to announce poll results.
Garba urged Nigerians to remain calm as they await the outcome of the final result from INEC.

He further advised Nigerians to shun unauthorised announcement of election results which was capable of inciting violence.
Garba, however, expressed happiness with the peaceful conduct of the elections across the country.
The NUJ president urged stakeholders to ensure that the total number of votes cast reflects the outcome of the result.
He said that the union did not receive any case of assault on journalists so far in the polls. (NAN)
