ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Federal Capital Territory chapters have thrown their weight behind the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan to enable him and the FCT Minister, Senator, Senator Bala Mohammed continue their excellent programmes in the nation’s capital.
Leaders of the two umbrella unions and their affiliate bodies, in their separate remarks during a stakeholders meeting to appraise developments at the local government and educational sectors in the FCT on Tuesday at the Minister’s banquet hall, Gwarinpa gave thumbs up for the President and the Minister for achieving a lot in the educational and area council areas.

The Chairman and Chief Executive of the Area Councils Service Commission, Alhaji Buba Mohammed Gamawa while hailing the minister on the achievements of his administration said they were proud to be associated with him and the present administration adding that the achievements are verifiable.
He said, “We in the Area Council Service Commission are proud to be associated with your administration in FCT (Minister). The achievements of this administration are not on paper. They are there for anybody to see and touch. They are physical and visible.”
Gamawa stated that out of a total of 5,000 staff of the FCT Area Councils Service Commission Staff 3,435 benefitted from various trainings and workshops in 2014 alone for the updating of their skills and knowledge.
On his part, the Chairman, FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Alhaji Umar Barau Ningi appreciated the minister for giving teachers and education a pride of place. He said it is only in the FCT that there is no ward without at least one school. While thanking him for introducing rural allowance for teachers as a way of encouraging them to accept posting to remote areas, he appreciated him for ensuring that teachers’ salaries and allowances are paid promptly.
Ningi added that teachers in special schools also receive 30 % bonus because of the special nature of their assignment. He stated that despite the fact that UBE teachers receive almost one billion naira every month, they have never been owed.
“There are so many positive things that if we continue to say the list would seem endless. For all these good deeds teachers have no cause than to be law abiding and assist the administration,” he stressed.
According to Comrade Adeyemi Kola who represented the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), FCT chapter, the achievements of the FCT Administration and the Federal Government under Dr. Jonathan are quite visible. He said the administration has made teachers proud adding that every secondary school in FCT has at least a bus which are given as brand new. He stated that FCT delegates are always the source of envy of others from the states during conference due to quality of buses and healthy appearance of members.
Others who spoke at the interactive meeting include the Chairman of NUT, FCT Chapter, Comrade Hassan Jibir, the President of NULGE, FCT Chapter, Arc. Yakubu Abubakar and Comrade Imam Yusuf Bello, the Deputy Chairman of NUT.
Earlier the Minister had explained that he convened the meeting with a view to deepening the career issues and bureaucratic systems at the grassroots in FCT. He urged them to be good ambassadors of FCT and to ensure that their members obtained their PVCs.

He reeled out the achievements of the FCT Administration. He urged them to be impartial and non-partisan in their actions. He remarked that FCT schools better than their counterparts in the states in terms of structure and facilities.
