Abuja – The National Union of Road Transport workers (NURTW) on Friday reaffirmed its commitment toward tackling crime at motor parks during festivities.
Mr Moses Alexander, NURTW’s Chairman, Lagos Long Journey Unit at Jabi Central Motor Park, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Alexander said the union would complement the efforts of security agencies to ensure regular security checks.
He said the union conducts routine checks at the entry and exit gates of the park to complement the security agencies’ efforts in checking terrorism and other crimes.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Alexander said owing to the security measures, the union had not recorded any incident of crime since its drivers had been conveying passengers to their various destinations to celebrate the Christmas.
The chairman blamed the rise in transport fare on fuel scarcity, saying the union increased the fare for Lagos for instance from N3,800 to N5,000 because drivers bought petrol above the official price.(NAN)
