Minna – Endwell Model Science School, Minna on Sunday inaugurated a vocational centre and home economics laboratory to boost early development of children.
Hajiya Dije Bala, Chairperson, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Endwell Scheme Board of Trustees while inaugurating the centre and laboratory, said the centre would help in empowering the students.
She said that Endwell Model Science School, Minna “is the school built by the Niger chapter of NUT.
“The idea behind the establishment of this vocational centre and home economics laboratory is to equip the children for future development.’’
Bala said that it was better to equip the children with vocational skills and home economics study to ensure their early development.
“After graduating from the primary school or high institution, they may decide to be self- employed from what they learnt at this level,’’ she added.
She said that the Federal and state governments have made it part of education policy to establish vocational centres and home economics laboratories in schools to encourage entrepreneurship.
Mrs Ramatu Garba, Lead Consultant to the school, said that the vocational centre had facilities such as the needle work and sewing department, hair dressing and barbing unit, beads and soap making unit and carpentry department.
Garba said that the pupils would be taught how to cook and bake at the home economics laboratory.
She said that the school was a science-based school founded on the Montessori principles and methodology.
She added that the school aimed at providing greater value through deployment of best practices and involvement of trained personnel.
She also said the school had facilities such as science laboratory, ICT centre, Montessori centre, library and shop.
Garba said that the school was incorporated by the management and Board of Trustees in March 2015 and commenced academic work in September same year.
Also speaking, Mrs Elizabeth Wistance, the school consultant from United Kingdom, urged management of the school to sustain the tempo to win the confidence of parents and guardians.
Earlier, Mrs Olayemi Ibitunde, Head Teacher of the school, said the school had 142 pupils, 15 academic and 18 non academic staff.(NAN)
