Birnin Kebbi  –   The National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr Alubo Olukoya, on Friday urged Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi to give priority to the welfare of teachers in the state.

Olukoya, who addressed newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, also urged the government to invest more in the education sector in order to place the state on the path of growth.

He said it was important for the government to direct its policies and decisions toward boosting the working conditions of teachers and raising the standard of education.

“The NUT would always be partners in progress with authorities that implement policies that would upgrade teaching as a profession as well as welfare of teachers.”

He said the union was happy over the decision of the state government to ensure prompt payment of entitlements of teachers.

The NUT president observed that the state was also paying attention to the improvement of school  infrastructure, teaching aids, and provision of scholarship to students.

Olukoya said the union would sustain good working relationship with states and federal governments, as well as other stakeholders to improve the education sector.

He stressed that such cooperation was necessary, as any improvement of the teaching profession would translate into rapid development of the country.

The NUT president advised teachers to support the proper implementation of policies and programmes aimed at boosting the education sector.

He assured the teachers that the union would always intervene in any industrial dispute involving them anywhere in the country.
