NaIja Ratels FC of Abuja on Wednesday trashed visiting Adamawa Queens 5-2 in a Nigeria Women Football League (NWPL) clash.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the highly entertaining match played at the Old Parade Ground pitch, Abuja saw the visiting team opening scoring in the first half.
Ijeoma Obi put the Adamawa ladies ahead in the first half but Naija Ratels quickly switched play and took the game to their visitors with some penetrating runs from the flanks.
On resumption of the second half, the Bankole Olowookere tutored Ratels resumed with flood of goals.
Olamide Adugbe started the rain of goals in the 56th and 74th minute, Motunrayo Ezekiel (60th min), Ade Folunsho (71st) minute while Timininu Adeshina completed the rout in the 88th minute.
Adamawa Queen’s Chinyere George got the second consolation goal for the visitors in the 76th minute after a mixup in the Ratels defence.
Naija Ratels coach, Bankole Olowookere told NAN after the match that the team had to switch tactics in the second half to overrun their opponent.
“It was not deliberate to score in the second half but we had to change tactics, I only told my players to be calm and focused while we exploit their weaknesses,” he said.
On his part, Adamawa Queens Jacob Vandi attributed the loss to fatigue, adding that they had a chaotic journey to Abuja.
“We had to sleep over in Nasarawa on our way, I think my girls were a bit tired but we will correct our mistakes going forward,” he said.
Naija Ratels, who are making their debut in the NWFL, have started the league in blistering form and currently lead Group A with seven points from three games.
