Enugu- The former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo on Tuesday hailed the emergence of Rep. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for Enugu State.
Nwodo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu that the people of the state would enjoy the leadership of Ugwuanyi if he won the 2015 election.
He said the candidate had long shown that the people’s comfort was his concern through his open door policy, humility, love and respect for the ordinary man.
Nwodo recalled how he and other stakeholders in the party ensured Ugwuanyi’s emergence as the consensus candidate of the party in the state.
“We settled for Ugwuanyi because he is prepared for the job and exhibited a high level of trust.
“You know that power is not what you give out to people because they are your friend or close to you.
“It is something you give to those who have shown maturity and preparedness to handle it without using it against the common man on the street.
“Ugwuanyi has exhibited the character of unifying all interests which is what is needed to grow our party and the state in general,” he said.
Nwodo expressed optimism that Ugwuanyi would sweep the governorship poll in the state and urged him to build more bridges with the people.
Reacting to the parallel PDP primary elections in the state, Nwodo said that the party was capable of handling the matter with recourse to the will of the people.
“The party has the final say and Ugwuanyi is the will of the people of Enugu.
“This is why you see a handful of stakeholders with national strength in the party solidly behind him and were also present at the venue of his primary election.
“We are for Ugwuanyi and the party at the national level knows that we are out to ensure his victory and that of the president in the polls,” Nwodo said. (NAN)
