ABUJA – Capital City Doves of Abuja on Saturday defeated Beautiful Tours Football Club 2-0 in a Group A week eight match of the Nigerian Women Professional Football League (NWPFL). The derby played at the Area 3 Sports Complex in Abuja was full of action from the onset as both teams tried to outweigh each other.
Beautiful Tour’s Joy Chukwu was the first to attempt a goal in the 20th minute of the game, but her effort was thwarted by Lizzy Idu’s energetic defending skills.
Capital City’s striker Ada Ella put her team in the driving seat in the 32nd minute when she laid a good shot that went clear of Tour’s goalkeeper Omolola Emmanuel.
Glory Osagie of Capital City in the 64th minute aimed at the goal post, but her effort fell into the solid hands of goalkeeper Emmanuel.
[eap_ad_1] Osagie however doubled the lead six minutes later when she rifled home a low shot from outside the penalty box to make up for her earlier miss. Beautiful Tours struggled till the end of the match, but could not convert their chances into goals. Coach Ngozi Ezeh of Capital City said she was happy that her team won, adding that they hope to be promoted into the Nigerian Women’s Premier League (NWPL). “ I feel happy that we won because when the league began my team did not start well. “ But my girls have picked up and have excelled in some matches. “We have 10 points now and some outstanding matches and l believe that we will qualify into the NWPL by the grace of God,’’ she said. Beautiful Tours Coach John Oke, on his part said that he was not disappointed with his team’s loss, adding that they gave their opponents a good run for their money. “I feel really good because my team has improved from what they used to be. “ We are a young team and gave our rivals a good fight. “ They (Capital City) have been playing in the professional league for the past ten years, but I am sure that the next time we meet them, the story will be different. “We have 10 points now and two matches more to go, and I am optimistic that we will win those matches,’’ he said.
