RIVERS- Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who is considered the political godfather of Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a cautionary message to his successor, advising against attending political meetings in Abuja. Wike expressed his belief that such meetings do not yield positive outcomes and encouraged Governor Fubara to focus on governing the state diligently and with humility.
During his remarks, Wike praised Fubara for his commitment to the Port Harcourt Ring Road project, stating that the governor has already paid 75% of its N150 billion cost. He also highlighted that the project, which ideally should have been driven by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), exemplified the misuse of funds within the commission.
The former governor emphasized the importance of Fubara’s humility, contrasting it with the arrogance often displayed by some politicians. Wike expressed gratitude for having a governor who remains down-to-earth despite holding a position of power.Addressing Governor Fubara directly, Wike advised him to prioritize the needs and interests of the people of Rivers State above political meetings in Abuja. He encouraged Fubara to dedicate himself to the development of the state, reminding him that the true source of appreciation and support lies within the state’s population.
In conclusion, Wike stressed the significance of staying in the state to address its challenges and work towards its progress. He urged Fubara not to be swayed by enticements that may arise from political circles in Abuja, as the ultimate goal should be the development and prosperity of Rivers State.
