Lagos – Mr Muhammed Momoh, Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in Lagos State has reiterated the commitment of the scheme to socio-economic development of Nigeria especially the youths.
Momoh made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
“The NYSC came up as a child of necessity to create unity amongst youths from different parts of our country and to prepare them for future leadership.
“Despite the challenges over the years, the corps has done excellently well.
“We undertake, and are committed to the socio-economic development of Nigerian communities, and we collaborate with development partners in different developmental fields to achieve optimal result,” he said.
Momoh said that the NYSC also ensures that corps members undertake projects that benefit their host communities.
“It is also part of the objectives of the NYSC to ensure that corps members undertake community services that will benefit their host communities.
“We mobilise the graduate youths of Nigeria to contribute to the socio-economic development of Nigeria and we have done this consistently and successfully,” he said.
Momoh said that the NYSC was also involved in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other developmental initiatives.
“Over the years, the scheme has undeniably evolved in its activities to meet urgent national issues constructively through innovations and partnerships with public and private sectors of our polity.
“We are very much involved in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and we have shown outstanding commitment to this,” he said.
The coordinator advised prospective corps members to always take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme of the NYSC to prepare them for self employment after the service year.
