Paiko (Niger) – The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Niger says it has registered 1,938 corps members out of the 2, 020 deployed for the orientation course in the state.
Mrs Theresa Arokoyo, the NYSC State Coordinator, disclosed this during the swearing-in of the 2017 Batch ‘A’ stream 11 Corps members in Paiko Local Government Area of the state.
She said that the 970 female and 968 male corps members that registered demonstrated the willingness to be pace-setters in the onerous task of nation building.
Arokoyo said that adequate medical facilities had been provided in the camp to take care of the corps members against all forms of diseases and urged them to be of good behaviour during and after their service year.
Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger, urged the corps members to adhere to camp regulations and participate adequately in camp activities.
Bello, represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Ladan, Secretary to the State Government, advised government at all levels to teach corps members about entrepreneurship.
He said that such knowledge and skills acquired by youths would make them to be independent and self-reliant.
“The entrepreneurship education will teach youths skills and equip them to seek problems solving opportunities and think creatively.
“We cannot predict the job market and the economy our youth will have to face tomorrow, therefore, our youths need skills that will allow them to navigate uncertain waters and chart their own path.
“The skill will make them to appreciate the correlation between hard work and success,” he said.
He urged the corps members to be responsible and committed as government was working to provide necessary facilities in the camp for a conducive environment.
The governor also assured the corps members that adequate security would be provided for them. (NAN)
