Ibadan – The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), lle-Ife, National Alumni Association, has promised to build students’ hostel as part of its contributions to the welfare of the students.
The chairman, Ibadan branch, Mr Oluyemisi Olaoye, gave this promise in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Monday during the association’s annual family picnic.
Olaoye said that the association paid its annual dues to the national body from which they will come up with a project for the students.
“It could be a scholarship programme, building project for them, the building is part of our contribution to students’ welfare because they don’t have enough accommodation,” he said.
He noted that the association also contributed to the institution by mentoring the students to be good leaders of tomorrow.
“We put our heads together to see what we can do to improve the great Ife, some people also get employment through members of the association,” he said.
He advised the students to live as people, who would eventually become good leaders of tomorrow, adding that they should be seen as good and positive students.
“They should learn how to give back to the society and knowing that life is not all about taking, but also giving,” he said.
Olaoye said the aim of the picnic was to bring their families together to network, relax and celebrate one another.
“We want our families, especially the children to feel the great impact of the association.
“Relaxation encourages good health and a family that stays together will surely be successful,” Olaoye said. (NAN)
