ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Muazu, like what is seen in the movies, took to his heels on sighting State House correspondents, who had laid ambush for him to get his reaction on the dumping of the party by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
However, Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees, Alhaji Walid Jibrin, has described the public tearing of the party’s membership card by Obasanjo, as irresponsible, improper and unbecoming of a former leader of the country.
Mauzu, who wore a sky blue ‘babariga’ with a matching cap, had on stepping out of the new banquet hall inside the Presidential Villa, signalled to his driver to move his tinted-glass four-wheel drive vehicle to where he was to pick him.
Newsmen who saw that the PDP chairman, popularly referred to as the game changer was about to escape, divided themselves into two main groups and gave him a hot chase.
While the first set of newsmen used the short cut to try and stop him at the security gate, others ran across the courtyard, with some attempted to jump in front of his moving vehicle.
The driver probably acting on instructions bluntly refused to stop, while Mauzu, who sat in front of the car pretended not to notice the drama outside and succeeded in escaping without taking questions from the newsmen.
He had earlier tried to avoid the greetings of the journalists as they made futile attempts to get him to speak on Obasanjo’s latest action against the party after having the first audience with President Goodluck Jonathan.

Meanwhile, responding to questions from State House correspondents, Jibrin pointed out that Obasanjo ought to have followed a more responsible and proper way of quitting the party than going to do so in the “market”.
The PDP BoT scribe said, “Should Obasanjo, a former head of state behave that way? Even if you want to take a decision like that will you do it that way? As a responsible person will you do it that way? I am not saying he is not a responsible person.
“One should do it in a very neat way, there is a process of coming out of PDP, you go to your ward, submit your card, give some explanations why you are doing so not just in the public. Why should the chairman tear the card, is he supporting him (Obasanjo)”?
Asked if the party was going to sanction the ex-president, Jibrin said, “that is his own view. Anybody can take a decision, a mature responsible decision”.
Asked if the party was not worried that this was coming at a time when the party is wooing back lost members, Jibrin said, “You have to consider the kind of people making utterances. There are some utterances that are not worthy of leaders. You have to make very responsible utterances. There other past presidents in Nigeria, have they behaved that way?”
Asked what should have been the best way, Jibrin said, ”He should have behaved responsibly, do it nicely and maturely. If he wants to leave PDP is it wrong for him to do so? if he is to do that will he come out in the public? He has access to the President, he has all the podium to do so, he has all the privileges to go and discuss with the President, do others behave that way?
“Our party is going ahead with its plan to win the elections, by the grace of God we are going to win the elections”, he said
