
EDO (Sundiata Post) – In anticipation of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) showdown between Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin and Rangers International Football Club of Enugu State, Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has initiated measures to garner widespread support for the home team.
The highly-anticipated match is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, kicking off at 4 pm.
In an official statement released by the Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare, it was revealed that the government is facilitating the provision of complimentary bus services through the Edo City Transport Services (ECTS). The objective is to ensure that Edo residents can easily attend the match and show their support for Bendel Insurance.
Nehikhare conveyed Governor Obaseki’s commitment to promoting sports within the state, stating, “Our sports-loving governor, His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has approved the provision of free bus rides through the Edo City Transport Services (ECTS) to mobilize Edo people in their numbers to cheer the State’s football team, Bendel Insurance, to victory during their NPFL clash against Rangers FC.”
The free bus services will be accessible at various pickup points, covering strategic locations such as the Ugbowo axis, Airport Road, Sokponba Road, Ikpoba-Hill, Eyean-Aduwawa axis, King Square axis, Ogida Siluko Road, New Benin, Sapele Road, and Ekenwan Road. This comprehensive network aims to facilitate the movement of fans and supporters to and from the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Nehikhare emphasized the importance of a filled stadium to boost the morale of Bendel Insurance, stating, “While we are confident in victory after 90 minutes of exciting football, we encourage Edo people to come out en masse to cheer our darling team, Bendel Insurance, to victory. We want the stadium to be filled so that we can give them the moral support they require.”
With the Edo State government’s proactive measures, the football enthusiasts and supporters of Bendel Insurance are anticipated to turn out in large numbers, creating an electrifying atmosphere for the upcoming clash with Rangers FC.
