OWERRI – A former Nigerian ambassador to of , George Obiozor, has emerged as new - of apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndígbo.

He defeated four other candidates to emerge victorious in delegates election held today, Sunday, January 10, 2021.

The election took place at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, capital of .

Prof. Obiozor polled a total of 304 votes to win the election.

Three of his opponents had announced that they were stepping down for him at the venue before voting commenced.

Obiozor takes over from John Nnia Nwodo, who successfully completed his tenure today.

Governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abịa), David Umahi () and Hope Uzodinma (Imo), among many other highly placed personalities attended the election and openly voted for Prof. Obiozor.
