ASABA (Sundiata Post) – Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has described the late pontiff as a beacon of peace, humility, and compassion whose legacy will continue to inspire generations around the world.

The governor’s condolence is contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba on Tuesday.

The governor, who expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Pope Francis, said his life was devoted to service, inclusiveness and justice.

Reports that Pope Francis passed on Sunday at the age of 88.

He said that the Pope was not only the spiritual head of over a billion Catholics, but also a global figure who touched countless lives across religions and nations.

“The passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis, is a monumental loss to the Catholic Church and humanity.

“His teachings, humility, and relentless pursuit of peace and unity will remain a guiding light to many.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I extend heartfelt condolences to the global Catholic community, the Vatican, and those who found hope and faith in the Pope’s leadership,” Oborevwori said.

He urged Catholics in Nigeria and across the world to remain steadfast in their faith and to honour the Pope’s legacy by upholding the values he championed during his lifetime.

“The world mourns a man who lived for others, who preached not just with words but by example. We celebrate a well-lived life and pray for his soul’s repose,” Oborevwori said. (NAN)
