LAGOS (Sundiata Post) – Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has been awarded the coveted Next Rated Artist title at the 17th Headies Awards, emerging victorious over fellow nominees Shallipopi, Qing Madi, and Ayo Maff.

This prestigious accolade is presented to emerging artists who are making significant contributions to the Nigerian music scene.

Music superstar Davido presented the award to Odumodublvck, recognizing his unique blend of rap, street influences, and cultural narratives that have rapidly gained him a loyal following.

Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, first rose to prominence with his track “Declan Rice,” which highlighted his bold lyrical style and engaging performance. Known for infusing Nigerian street culture into his music while maintaining a distinct sound, Odumodublvck has been hailed for redefining the boundaries of Nigerian rap.

The 17th Headies, held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, celebrated outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry. The event also featured performances by a variety of talented artists.

During his acceptance speech, Odumodublvck expressed his gratitude, saying, “Against all odds, I have pushed through so many barriers. A few years ago, we couldn’t express many things through our music. The world doubted us, saying ‘you can’t do this,’ ‘you can’t speak like that,’ and ‘you can’t release music this way.’”

He continued, “But me standing here today proves that those words were false. I owe it all to my Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, who has been with me through thick and thin. Tonight, God has shown that He reigns.”

The rapper also shared his excitement on his X platform, saying, “THANK YOU JESUS. THANK YOU @the_headies 🙏🏿❤️ THANK YOU TO EVERYONE SUPPORTING THE GRIND. VIDEO EXTRACT (14/05/2023) THE PROPHECY.”
