CALABAR – The Managing Editor of the Nation Newspaper, Mr Abdulwaheed Odusile, has promised practicing journalists a Special Media Salary Scale (MSS) if he is elected as the National President of NUJ.
Odusile made the promise in Calabar on Saturday when he led a delegation of media practitioners to the state NUJ secretariat to solicit for votes ahead of the NUJ elections.
He said that journalist had been at the fore front of promoting democracy in the country, hence the need for a better salary structure to complement their efforts.
According to him, most states have yet to implement the weigh-in allowance for media workers.
He said that if elected, he would dialogue with the affected state governments to ensure the implementation of the allowance.

“If you vote me into the office of the National President of NUJ, I can guarantee you of good salary structure.
“We are going to engage the government of the day in dialogue to make them see reasons why we need good pay for our members.
“This we can achieve if you give me your support to be your president,’’ he said.
The managing editor also promised to eradicate quackery in journalism, adding that all practicing journalists should meet the necessary requirements for the practice.
He was accompanied on the visit by Mr Adeleye Ajayi, an Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who is vying for the position of National Financial Secretary. (NAN)
