….Says post-flood rehabilitation as important as managing the floods itself

Abuja (Sundiata Post) – As the floods which ravaged most states of Nigeria begin to recede, chairman of the Flood Management Committee for Ogbaru Local Government Area, Hon. Ben Nwasike, has advocated for increased sensitization, so as to enable the people readjust to their normal way of living, without much difficulties.
According to Nwasike, “as our people get set to return home and begin life anew, there is the dire need to sensitize them against the ill-effects of cold, water-borne diseases and dangerous reptiles displaced from their natural habitation and currently taking refugee in homes abandoned during the peak of flooding.”
Speaking against the backdrop of the current sensitization campaign being undertaken in Internally Displaced Persons(IDP) camps, Nwasike praised Hon. Victor Afam Ogene for his foresight in thinking about post-flood rehabilitation.
Hon. Ogene, who represented Ogbaru Federal Constituency between 2011 and 2015, is the Labour Party House of Representatives candidate for the same constituency in the 2023 elections.
A team of medical practitioners and caregivers from the stable of Hon. Ogene are currently on tour of various IDP locations and camps, delivering health tips, body massage and distributing balms.
Led by Chinelo Isagba, a massage therapist, the team has visited and carried out massage sessions for hundreds of persons in the IDP camps at Afia Idemmili, Otumonye, Okpoko and Odekpe Town Hall. This week, they are billed to visit displaced persons at Akili Ozizor, Atani, Umunankwo and Ossomala.
Sundiata Post recalls that some of those who benefited from the body massage, as well as the womenfolk who were taught about the various causes of cold, and how to prevent same, were full of praises for Hon. Ogene, who they described as a silent achiever.
