ABEOKUTA,- The Ogun Commissioner for Forestry, Mr Adebayo Fari, on Saturday reiterated government’s commitment at ensuring efficient and sustainable management of the forest resources in the state.
Fari spoke at a workshop organised by the Traditional Medicine Practitioners in the state in collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry with the theme: “Traditional Medicine and Dwindling Forest Resources”.
He said that the forest estate, which housed all the raw materials used for herbal preparation had been neglected in the past.
He said that stakeholders and members of the public were now ready to come together to brainstorm and chart a new course for sustainable management of forest resources.
“Most of the materials the traditional medicine practitioners use for their mixtures are found in the forest, and there has been continuous forest degradation.
“But with the ongoing regeneration exercise in the ministry, it will really help them as they will no longer travel to other states to get resources.
“Also on the part of the government, revenue will be generated as token amount that will be paid to the government,” Fari said.
Mr Ola Onasanya, the President of Traditional Medicine Practitioners in the state, called on members to adhere to all instructions to prevent continuous dwindling of forest resources.
According to him, that is the only means of keeping the association in the business. (NAN)
