Abeokuta – The Ogun government has pledged to sustain its capacity building programmes for science teachers in the state in order to keep them abreast of global teaching techniques.
The Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Olatunde Okeowo, made this known on Wednesday while playing host to the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Ogun Chapter in Abeokuta.
Okeowo said that the capacity building programmes would engender the delivery of qualitative education in primary schools.
He described teaching as a noble profession and science as the bedrock of development in any developed society.
Okeowo said it was important for science teachers to equip themselves with latest trends in their fields so as to be more productive.
The SUBEB chairman, who promised government support to the association, urged them to brace up and identify grey areas in their job so that stakeholders could proffer solutions for optimum output.
He pleaded with science teachers to make the subjects more interesting for students to make them respond favourably.
Earlier, the Chairman of STAN in Ogun, Mr Peter Onanuga, thanked the state government for the support received so far.
Onanuga pledged that the association would initiate more programmes towards exposing science teachers to best teaching practices in the global educational environment. (NAN)
