Lagos- Italy-based table tennis player, Onaolapo Ojo, on Saturday boasted of making a remarkable debut at the forthcoming 12th Aso National Competition in Abuja by winning the men’s singles event gold medal.
The competition will hold from April 4 to April 8.
Ojo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on phone that making a remarkable achievement at the annual competition would further boost his records.
Ojo of Marcozzi Club in Italy said that he was fully prepared for the tournament to showcase his talents and prove to his teeming fans that he had greatly improved his form.
“I trained so hard for this competition because I want to make an impact. I want people to see that I haven’t diminished a bit; instead, I have become better as a table tennis player.
“I want people to see that my moving to Italy has not changed or affected me as a player, I only moved out of the shores of Nigeria to get better.
“I relocated for more exposure and to acquire more knowledge because it is only through this that I can become a better table tennis player,’’ he said.
The Italian champion said that he would also use the tournament to evaluate himself on how well he had been able to utilise his constant training ahead of the competition.
“`Training is of no use if there is no competition for you to exhibit your talent. Competitions will also allow you to learn few new things from your fellow athletes,’’ Ojo said.
According to him, the competition will be a text run for him to discover his lapses and how to improve on those lapses. (NAN)
