KADUNA – The Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association has commended the Kaduna State Government for providing 1,000 tricycles to cushion the effect of the ban on commercial motorcycles in the state.
Alhaji Garba Rabiu, the state Chairman of the association, made the commendation on Thursday in Kaduna in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Gov. Mukhtar Yero inaugurated the tricycles on June 9, after the government outlawed the activities of Okada riders in the state.
Rabiu said the association, as a major stakeholder in the transportation sector, appreciated the gesture by the government and pledged to cooperate with it to normalise transportation situation in areas affected by the ban.
He acknowledged that some members of the association had been assured of getting allocation of the tricycles currently being distributed by a committee headed by the state Deputy Gov., Amb. Nuhu Bajoga.
According to him, the association has about 100,000 registered members across the state and some of them will benefit.
The chairman appreciated the 50 per cent discount offered by the government, and its shouldering of the cost of comprehensive insurance cover, painting and number plates of the tricycles.
Rabiu, however, urged the state government to regulate the influx of tricycle operators into the state to reduce congestion and curb insecurity.
He further appealed to the governor to provide more tricycles to those displaced by the ban on Okada operation. (NAN)
