OWERRI – Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has called for partnership with media practitioners as he urged journalists to be objective in the reportage of events in the state.
Okorocha made the call on Monday while inspecting some road projects in the Owerri, the state capital.
He said that the call was necessary because “the huge achievement’’ of his administration was being under reported by the media.
“The media men are not being fair to this administration; they don’t give us full coverage of our achievements.
“Most of the media men in Imo are not grounded with the activities going on in the state, and that is why we don’t often get full coverage from them,’’ he said.
Okorocha said he had embarked on massive development of capital projects in the 27 local government areas of the state in the past three years.
He urged media practitioners to always be objective in reporting activities of the state government, adding that his government would welcome constructive criticisms from the media.
“We will accept any constructive criticism from the media, but they should not blackmail the government.’’
He advised media practitioners against being used as tools for political fight by politicians, but to maintain their integrity at all times. (NAN)
