ASABA (SundiataPost) – The Delta State Government has congratulated Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on his election as the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Delta State in the 2015 election.

In a statement issued by Mr Chike Ogeah, the state commissioner for information and made available to SundiataPost, the state government described Okowa as a worthy flag bearer.

The statement reads: “As was the case in the November 29, 2014 primaries into Delta State House of Assembly, the gubernatorial primary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) held on Monday, December 8, 2014 lived up to the template of transparency and absence of rancour set in the earlier primaries.

“At the end of the exercise, Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa emerged victorious by popular vote. We congratulate the distinguished senator on the well deserved victory. With the Delta State PDP now through with credible primaries, we urge all Deltans to imbibe the virtues of tolerance and fair play exhibited by the contestants.

We also commend all the contestants for upholding the party’s tenets of fairness, discipline, loyalty and camaraderie throughout the campaigns and actual voting. That more than 20 distinguished Deltans, each eminently qualified to lead the state, took active part in the PDP gubernatorial primary is a testament to the confidence in the electoral process engendered by the leadership of Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, CON, governor of Delta State, who created a level playing field for the emergence of the people’s choice.

“Through the peaceful and successful conduct of the primary, Delta State has proved that it is a bastion of the PDP and is primed to continue to sustain the atmosphere of peace and development in the coming dispensation.

“We urge all the contestants, PDP leaders and stakeholders in the state to rally round Dr. Okowa to ensure the continuation of a PDP government come the 2015 general elections.”
