Asaba- Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governorship candidate of PDP in Delta, on Saturday in Asaba called for collective efforts to move the state to an enviable height.

Okowa made the call when he inaugurated “Canaan Movement” campaign group to ensure his victory and that of the party in the February election.

Okowa said his desire was to be a governor of Delta, where the Itsekiri, Urhobo, Anioma, Isoko and Ijaw ethnic groups lived together in peace and harmony without suspicion.

“Following a transparent process and by the grace of God, I won the governorship primaries and emerged as the PDP flag bearer.

“All those who contested with me, 22 of them, have congratulated me.

“I desire to be a governor for all the people of the state, I alone cannot take Delta to that height, we have to work together to move the state to an enviable height”, he said.

Okowa pledged that he would serve the people with honesty and transparency if elected.

He said that with the inauguration of the youth campaign movement, all campaigns would be issue-based and urged the youths to campaign for him and President Goodluck Jonathan.

“As a party, we stand for transformation and our transformation is not in words, lots of things have been going on in the country in spite of the security challenges.

“The railways have been resuscitated across the country and a lot more is still being done in that sector; agriculture, health, power, roads among others are taking new dimensions’’, he said.

Okowa pledged to sustain the peace and security agenda of the current administration in the state, as well as create industrial village and skill acquisition centres for youths to reduce unemployment.

He advised youths to adopt door to door and internet based campaign strategies to reach the public to ensure that the PDP emerged victorious in the general elections.

State Coordinator of the movement, Mr Mike Akpobire, said the group would employ both traditional and modern strategies to ensure that Okowa emerged victorious in the election.

Akpobire described Okowa as a detribalised Deltan, with requisite experience and grassroots acceptability.

“We shall mobilise women and youths to vote for him and we shall ensure that we protect the votes at the various units across the state”, he said. (NAN)
