Ibadan – The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has mourned the demise of the former Oyo State Gov. Abiola Ajimobi, who died on Thursday at the age of 70.
This is containd in a statement issued by the monarch’s spokesperson, Mr Adeola Oloko, and made available to newsmen on Friday in Ibadan.
The statement said said that the Olubadan was in a dilemma on hearing the demise of Ajimobi and it was not in Yoruba custom and tradition for a father to announce the obituary of his son.
“Words are not enough to describe the untimely exit of former Governor Ajimobi, an illustrious son and Aare of Ibadan land.
“One recalls that the last time Kabiyesi and Ajimobi met was at Ibadan House, Oke Aremo, sometime in February this year.
“A wall (not hall) of fame built in honour of some illustrious Ibadan indigenes had been erected just before the outbreak of COVID-19.
“Nobody had the slightest idea that death would come calling on him so quickly.
“Ajimobi was vibrant and full of life at that occasion.
“Our prayer has always been that our children should outlive us. But, who are we to challenge the sovereignty of Almighty God who gives and takes without question,” Adetunji said.
Adetunji expressed condolences to the late Ajimobi family on behalf of the entire people of Ibadan land and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
“Our hearts go to his immediate family, especially Chief Florence Ajimobi and the children.
“It is our prayer that Almighty Allah would give all his friends and relatives the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” the Olubadan said.
