Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Federal lawmaker representing Delta Central senatorial district, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has defeated Senator Ike Ekweremadu to emerge the Deputy Senate President of the 9th Senate.
Senator Omo-Agege shortly after declaring him winner as Deputy Senate President took oath of office as Deputy Senate President and oath of allegiance to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Omo- Agege pulled a total of 67 votes to defeat Senator Ekweremadu who scored 37 votes
The total of 105 members voted in the election that took place at the red chamber on Tuesday.
The Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has been Deputy Senate President for third terms of four years each.
The Clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Omolori congratulated the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan and Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo- Agege for their victory.
