Lagos – Emeka Erem, a comedian and popular On-Air-Personality (OAP), on Tuesday urged budding comedians to improve on their craft to make an impact in their profession.

Erem told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the comedy profession demanded a high sense of resourcefulness from the practitioners to make an indelible impact.

“Comedy is a profession which is generally accepted by everyone home and abroad, and the earlier we comedians take it more seriously the better for us.

“Being a profession is not a gain say but requires efforts to research what can feed to people across borders.

“Every other profession requires some study to get certified for better pay and ours is not in any way different,’’ he said.

Erem, who is popularly known as “Ajebo’’, added that comedy was relative and jokes are instigated by happenings in the society in which they are used.

“Most comedians are still hovering on local platforms because they are not yet abreast of the norms in other climes.

“You use what’s obtainable in any society you want to perform to crack jokes.

“If you are not used to the life there you might not be able to relate properly with the people that come for your show,’’ he said.

Erem said that with more support from government, private individuals and brands for artistes, there would be better platforms that will enhance the quality of comedy. (NAN)
