AKOKO – The Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on Friday urged the local governments in the state to improve on their revenue generation. Mr Afolabi Akinsiku, the chairman of the committee, spoke in Oke-Agbe Akoko, in Akoko North-West Local Government Area, when he led other members on an oversight visit to the area. Akinsiku advised the councils to employ private consultants that would assist them in tax collection toward improving their revenue. He also called on the council chairmen to provide more essential services to rural dwellers by embarking on people oriented projects. Akinsiku said that the oversight visit was to ensure accountability, financial probity and good governance at the local government level. The chairman of the council, Mr Olusesan Kumuyi, briefed the committee members on his achievements and his administration’s efforts to solve erosion problems in the area. Members of the committee also visited Akoko North-East Local Government in Ikare-Akoko where the council chairman, Mr Lekan Bada, also briefed the team on some ongoing projects. The committee looked into the accounts of the councils and contracts executed by them. The committee has so far visited four of the 18 Local Government Areas in the state.(NAN)
