AKURE- The Ondo Liberation Initiative has commended the National Secretariat of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the reconciliation committee constituted for their timely intervention and restoration of peace to Ondo state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state House of Assembly had initiated moves to impeach the Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, over alleged gross misconduct.
The Assembly alleged Aiyedatiwa of the offence while he was acting as governor when Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State was on medical leave to Germany between June and September 2023.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Akure, by Mr Alabi Johnson, Spokesperson of OLI, the group appealed to the national secretariat of the party to ensure complete resolution of the discord.
Johnson explained that OLI was a coalition of over 50 organisations spread across the 18 Local Government Area of the state.
He said OLI was working on empowering the youths, women, children, conflict resolution, peace-building, economic advancement and sustainable development of the state, and Nigeria at large.
Johnson said that the group was concerned because of the discord that the impeachment move had caused in Ondo State.
“We cannot afford to live in disharmony because peace is supposed to be the driver of development in our state.
“We also wish to commend the National Chairman of our great party, APC, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje and the reconciliation committee set up by the national secretariat, headed by Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, for their timely intervention and restoration of peace to our dear state.
“Much as we appreciate them, we appeal to them not to relent in their efforts in achieving total peace between all the arms of government in Ondo State.
“It is our prayer that Akeredolu gets well and returns to his official duties soonest,” Johnson said.
He also commended Aiyedatiwa for his maturity, humility and perseverance in handling the impeachment saga.
“We urge him to ensure the reconciliation and the political solution opted for is successful.
“We recognise the office of the Speaker of the Assembly and urge that the reconciliation process is given due priority,” he said. (NAN)
