AKURE – The Ondo State Government on Tuesday constituted a task force on fake and counterfeit drugs as well as unwholesome processed food.
Inaugurating the committee, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, said government was ready to provide the necessary logistics for it to discharge its duties.
According to him, the state will ensure that residents have access to quality and effective drugs in private and public health institutions in the state.
Adeyanju said that government in collaboration with NAFDAC had procured TRUSCAN, a cutting edge technology, to detect counterfeit drugs on the spot, adding that the state was the first to take the initiative.
He said government would also embark on a sensitization campaign to galvanise support for the task force.
The commissioner warned the task force not to deviate from its duties as its activities would be monitored based on measurable performance index already stipulated in its code of conduct.
The members of the committee were drawn from NAFDAC, NDLEA and the Ministry of Health.
Others were the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Association of Patent Medicine Dealers and Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria. (NAN)
