AKURE – Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State on Friday in Akure inaugurated a task force to evacuate illegal immigrants, destitute and other social miscreants from the state. Mimiko, who was represented at the inauguration by Dr Roti Areola, the Secretary to the State Government, explained that the task force would enhance public safety and sanity. According to him, the task force was put in place to ensure that no room is given to anyone to perpetrate evil in the state. “Government has noticed influx of immigrants and worrisome behaviour of some citizens in recent times, hence, the need to strengthen security for the betterment of all and sundry,” he said. The governor, who said the task force would be functional in the three Senatorial Districts of the state, urged members of the task force to respect the human rights of those to be apprehended. The task force comprises men of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, State Security Service and military officers. The task force is to begin work immediately across the state. Earlier, Mrs Foluke Owoseni, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, said the task force would assist the ministry to fish out and drive away people who might constitute nuisance. According to her, the state is determined to evacuate miscreants and destitute from all major streets, towns and villages of the state. She explained that citizen’s right to life must be secured so that peaceful coexistence could be enhanced. (NAN)
