OKITIPUPA – The police in Ondo State on Monday arraigned a 59-year-old farmer, Festus Olagundoye, in an Okitipupa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining N100,000 under false pretence .
The accused, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a one-count charge of unlawful collection of money under false pretence.
The prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi , told the court that the accused had on June 15, around 3.40 a.m. at Ayeka in Okitipupa unlawfully obtained N100,000 from one Mrs Eze Eko.
Orogbemi said the accused collected the money on the pretext that he would rent out a palm tree plantation in Araromi Okitipupa to Eko.[eap_ad_2]
He said that the offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37,Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr Funsho Akintoye, granted the accused bail in the sum N100,000 with one surety in like sum, adding that the surety must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case till Sept. 3 for further hearing. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
