ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – A close associate of former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed as lies the
claim that the former President advised Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just-concluded Ondo State gubernatorial
election to concede defeat.
The associate, who pleaded anonymity because he was not officially permitted to speak, stressed that Jonathan has not spoken to anybody involved in the just election, adding that the purported
telephone conversation was a figment of the author’s weird imagination.
He said further: “I have just read an online publication which purportedly claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan called Eyitayo Jegede, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the just-concluded Ondo state election and advised him to concede defeat.
“It is obvious, from the sloppy way the story was written without any attribution, that it is clearly a spurious fabrication by the author, who may have been looking for a cheap way to earn a byline on the
political development in Ondo State.
“In the first place, I am close enough to the former President to know that he has not called anybody on the outcome of the Ondo elections, let alone advise Jegede to concede to his opponent.
“The claim that Jonathan was “among the first persons that called him (Jegede) even before the result was announced” and “called again and reminded him (Jegede) not to forget their earlier discussion,” is an obvious lie which can only be published by an unserious medium.”
If the author wanted to advise Jegede to tow the path of Jonathan who conceded to President Muhammadu Buhari, even before the vote tallying process of the 2015 elections was still on-going, he could simply have done that without having to hide behind an obvious falsehood,” the source further said.
