AKURE – Coach Adedotun Omoniyi of the Ondo State Table Tennis Association on Thursday said its weekly Table Tennis Classics would serve off on Jan. 31.
Omoniyi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Akure that the closed championship would be used to jostle for honours between junior and senior players.

He said that no fewer than 20 players would compete in the championship meant to develop young talents and to put such players in competition shape.
The ITTF-certified coach lauded the listing of players from the state by the NTTF in the monthly rankings, describing it as a major stride.
“This is a major stride for the development of table tennis in Nigeria; and this is the first time our players were being accorded such status.
“We intend to retain this status by ensuring no stone is left unturned in putting the players in right shape.
“Boboye Olaniyan and Ojo Onaolapo are among the best five players in the country, while the likes of Olasunkanmi Ogini and Wale Fagbamila are doing very fine,” he said.
Wale Fagbamila, a player of the association, said the weekly event would boost players confidence ahead of major competitions in the year. (NAN)
