LAGOS – A former Super Eagles Head Coach, Adegboye Onigbinde, on Wednesday urged the newly elected President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Pinnick Amaju, to focus more on developmental programmes.
Onigbinde, who is also a CAF and FIFA instructor, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
NAN reports that Amaju, until his election in Warri on Sept.30, was the chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission.
Amaju had earlier polled 25 votes in the first ballot and recorded 32 votes in the run-off election to emerge the winner ahead of Taiwo Ogunjobi and Dominic Iorfa who scored four and eight votes respectively.
Onigbinde said, “My appeal to the new president is to ensure that football developmental programmes thrive during his tenure. [eap_ad_1] “Our successes in football should not be attached to competitions, but should be on the level of our sports development.
“We need to catch them young so that we will not be playing the guessing game.
“When we have viable developmental programmes, then, we can assess our performance with competitions so that we will not be winning by sheer luck, but by an improved football developmental system,’’ he said. (NAN)
