Abuja – The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu has called on Nigerians to embrace the application of technology on local production to alleviate poverty.
Onu made the call when members of Save Nigeria-Buhari Ambassadors, an NGO visited him in his office in Abuja on Friday.
He urged Nigerians to cooperate with government in its effort to effectively utilise science and technology for economic development.
“Such efforts will help to create jobs for the young and the old in the country to resuscitate our economy.
“Technology implementation is a veritable instrument for diversification and strengthening of Nigeria’s economy,’’ he said.
According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration under one year has tremendously improved security, particularly in the north.
“Today, the world has recognised that there is a change in leadership and that change is positive and promotes the image of the nation.
“This is as a result of what the president has been doing to make sure that he cleans up and put the nation in the new direction to attain a level of greatness.
“`Everybody in the country now is conscious of the fact that there is rule of law, because there is no longer any room for impunity and arrogance of power,’’ he said.
Onu commended the efforts of the organisation towards promoting the image of the nation.
The minister thanked the leadership of the organisation for its contributions towards the 2015 general elections that had brought about the desired change in the country.
“If we have other organisations like yours that draws your membership from different parts of the country, then we stand the best chance of having a strong, united, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria, he added.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the organisation thanked the minister for his laudable advice to the group.
“You believe absolutely in us, inspire us, and give us courage to believe in ourselves to beat the unimaginable and to dare the impossible.
“With you on our side sir, we will pursue our goals and achieve our noble course,’’ he added.
He appealed to the minister to facilitate the provision of resources to “Save Nigeria-Buhari Ambassadors’’ in order for the organisation to make more impact in the society. (NAN)
